Hot Water Heater Tips

  1. Everybody knows that hot water uses a lot of energy. So when your shower starts to get cold and you feel like it to get warmer, then  don’t turn the hot water up but you just turn the cold down.
  2. Set up a programmable thermostat which is compatible with your heating and cooling system. Take care to set it low in the winter and high in the summer.
  3. Insulate water pipes and slide this on the water lines beginning from your hot water heater to all hot water valves, particularly your shower, clothes washer and dishwasher. Then you will not have to wait long for hot water again!
  4. Showers utilize less water than baths. And especially low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators consume less water. They help to reduce the quantity of water that comes out of your shower or kitchen faucet per minute, hence save water and energy.
  5. If you are using gas hot water tank in your home, you must drain the tank 3 -4 time per year to get the majority of calcium sediment out of your hot water tank. Since the gas tank has less sediment to heat, you will be saving energy.
  6. Go in for tank less water heater. It saves lot of energy as it only works when you turn on the hot water tap. In this hot water is not wasted during the night and day when you don’t require hot water.

Appliance Tips

  1. Use your dishwasher or washing machine with the full loads only.
  2. Always buy energy- efficient appliances. Always go in for the products with the ENERGY STAR label. This label helps you identify energy-efficient appliances and products.
  3. If your fridge is more than 10 years old just get rid of it.
  4. Make use of the toaster to toast, not the toaster oven. Because the toaster ovens not only take more time, but uses twice the watts as a toaster.
  5. Do not wash the clothes that are not dirty. Try your best to fill fewer laundry baskets per week.
  6. Use a push lawn mower in place of a gas-powered lawn mower.
  7. Whenever you open the oven door you lose at least 20% of the heat. Prefer to use the window to check on your foods and keep the door closed.
  8. Always keep the condenser coils of the freezer or the fridge clean. In case they are dusty then they will lose efficiency by about 25%. Just vacuum clean the condenser coils and maintain the fridge economic.
  9. Never put food straight into the oven from fridge. Keep food outside for some time until it reaches room temperature.
  10. Dry your clothes in sun.
  11. Prefer to use electric kettle as it uses a lot less energy to boil water than a stove top kettle.
  12. Never ever leave the door of your refrigerator open.
  13. Prefer to air dry your dishes in spite of using the heated drying cycle.
  14. Wash your clothes in cold water. It not only reduces hot water usage, but is better for your clothes as well.
