The Hallucinations of Magic Mushroom

As a biology student, mushroom is one of my subjects of study during my course in college. I breed them once and I once planned on doing it professionally and become a supplier myself.

But that was a different mushroom.

What I’m talking about above may give me miracle if I work on it and put myself into it. But the magic mushrooms I’m writing here is far from it.

Some called it Psylocybin Mushrooms or Psychedelic Mushrooms or shrooms. The reason for the names was the mushrooms contain medicinal compounds psilocybin, psilocin, ibotenic acid, and muscimol; all of them are conscious altering substances. Medicinal, because there have been reports that psilocybin could send both obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and OCD-related clinical depression into complete remission immediately and for up to months at a time, compared to current medications which often have both limited efficacy.

There are approximately 190 species of psilocybin mushrooms worldwide that contain various concentrations of active ingredients which can gave different effects. The mind altering effects could last 3 to 8 hours depending on dosage, preparation method and personal metabolisms. The mushrooms itself are light to dark-brown in color and readily available in nature. They usually grow in cows dung, and for some who had experienced it, they say the mushrooms that grows from bulls dung is more potent in effect. They could be made to juice, mixed them in egg and make omelet out of it, turn it to powder, dried it up or just eat it fresh.

For those who tried, they describe their ‘trip’ as a powerful experience which takes you beyond normal perception. At low doses, mushrooms induce a tingling body feeling and sense of euphoria and lightness. You may feel happy and giggly; colors seemed more vibrant, music sounds richer. But a higher dose could give you powerful psychedelic effect. I’ve read in local newspaper about a case in Kuta, Bali, where an Australians had had a magic mushrooms milkshake with a group of friends. The drinks had caused his emotions to be amplified. Previously he had had an argument and accidentally hit his mate; his guilt is amplified to the extent that he became suicidal. It is reported that he had stabbed himself in the chest with a broken drink bottle and punctured his right lung, then climbed to the second floor of the hotel and jumped. He somehow managed to get up and then climbed the stairs again and jumped again. This time he didn’t get up, and yet it took eleven people to grapple him into an ambulance. He died of head injuries the next day.

Their hallucinogenic effect is indeed powerful. Even Mayan, African and other ancient shaman use them as a treatment for mental and psychological disorder. NOT as a recreational.

In Indonesia, information concerning the effect of this kind of mushrooms is still minimal. Although the United Nations have issued a report concerning this type of mushrooms through International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) and on 1971 had been ratified by many countries.

BNN or Badan Narkotika Nasional (Indonesian’ National Narcotics Agency) has a different opinion than INCB and the Europe Union health commission. INCB consider magic mushrooms as psychotropic drug, while BNN consider them as addictive substances. The differences is crucial because by doing so, BNN had grouped magic mushrooms along with alcohol, cigarettes and other addictive drugs, in other words, BNN consider them to be addictive. While, based on INCB reports, magic mushrooms is hardly addictive.

Either way, magic mushrooms are powerful mental amplifiers. About 15 % of users who experience bad trips report having post traumatic flash-backs that can last weeks or month after taking the drug. Although I’m not recommending, but be certain that you are in a safe, comfortable environment, preferably with a trusted friend, when you eat magic mushrooms. Don’t use it when you are sad, depressed or in a state of fear and anxious. Or better yet, don’t use it at all. Happiness doesn’t come from drugs, liquor, pills, or in this case, mushrooms. Happiness is what you choose to be.

PARENTAL ADVISORY: From my search, there are many websites giving positive reports and even encouraging statements concerning the use of these mushrooms. Please be warned and highlight on the dangers of the use of this drug.
