Offshore Wind Farm, Good or Bad Thing for the Environment?

Centrica, a British Gas’s company has announced that they will build a new offshore wind farm in UK waters which will provide enough electricity for 200,000 homes. This is equal to 270MW of energy. The construction will begin in 2010 and it will last for 2 years. It is predicted that in the end of 2012 the electricity will start to be generated.

There is always been pros and cons about everything. Some people think that the construction of the wind farm at the offshore area will definitely brings destruction to the sea bed. It is true to a certain point. The sea bed plays an important role for the environment, and any construction on it will certainly gives an impact. The question is, how big is the impact?

Following our campaign against global warming which is for me mostly contributed by the fossil fuel, the renewable energy is like a new hope for us. I am really interested to see how human will handle the transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy. Almost 99% of our activities are supported by the fossil fuel and it will not be an easy job for us to change our backbone to renewable energy. However, the hopes are still there. The development of renewable energy starts giving a significant support to our daily life. Electric car and wind farms are just small example of it. For sure, I will always be waiting for the development of the renewable energy.
