Did you know-Green Tips
We are experiencing warmer years than ever before; our actions have lead to irreversible damage to the environment. Every year thousands of species go extinct, glaciers are melting, oceans are moving forward and taking over the land. So wake up and get aware of our responsibilities towards our kids. Following are some Green tips for all of us to follow to give our kids a healthy and better world to live:

• The condition of forests on our mother Earth is terrible, According to the survey on the condition of deforestation between the years 2000 and 2005, global forested area shrank by more than 36 million hectares which is just under 1% of the total forested area. A workable solution is planting of enough young trees to restore the older ones felled in any given forest.
• If every gas-heated home were accurately caulked and weather-stripped, enough natural gas would be saved each year to heat an additional 4 million homes.
• Do you know that the best time to water outdoors is in the morning? This not only reduces water waste but helps to promote healthy flora. Morning air is cooler; therefore less water is lost to evaporation than during the middle of the day. If you water the plants in evening, you run the threat of promoting fungi and bacterial diseases.
• Did you know that Laptop computers draw only 15 to 25 watts in normal use, as compared to the 150 watts used by a conventional desktop computer and monitor? Moreover, laptops also draw just a fraction of a watt while in sleep mode.
• Did you know that about 1 billion seabirds and mammals die every year by ingesting plastic bags? These animals bear a painful death, the plastic wraps around their intestines and they choke to death. All of this death and pollution could be evaded if we make the commitment not to use plastic bags.
• Did you know every year; about 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide? This comes out to over one million per minute. So please say complete NO to plastic bags.
• Did you know that more than 53 million trees are consumed every year to produce paper catalogs? This production of all these catalogs results in 56 billion gallons of wastewater. And when all these catalogs are thrown out it’s roughly 4.1 million tons of waste which is equal to an annual waste of 2 million households. An emptier mailbox means less pollution, less waste and hence less of the emissions which causes global warming.
• Did you know babies’ nappies make up about 2 % of the average household rubbish, which is equivalent to the weight of almost 70,000 Double Decker buses every year?
• Did you know that NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and its partners in the Catalog Choice Task Force created Catalog Choice to lessen the number of repeat and unwanted catalog mailings as well as to promote the adoption of sustainable industry best practices? More than one million families have used Catalog Choice to stop unwanted catalogs, saving roughly 250,000 trees per year. Sign up now to lessen your load of unwanted catalogs.
• Did you know that only 10 percent of the electricity consumed in washing a load of clothes goes to run a washer’s motor; 90 percent of it is used to heat the water? Washing clothes in cold water can cut CO2 emissions and save you up to $64 a year on your energy bill. When hot water is necessary to kill dust mites in bedding or germs in kids clothes then wash in hot water and use cold water to rinse.
• Did you know that microwaves are between 3.5 and 4.8 times more energy efficient than traditional electric ovens. If it costs ten cents to cook something in a microwave, it would cost forty-eight cents to cook the same thing in a standard oven. If everybody in North America cooked solely with a microwave for a year, we would save as much energy as the whole continent of Africa consumes during that same time.
Be a leader in this fight and let’s work against neutralizing our carbon footprints. Help spread the word about valuable Going green solutions.
